Menstruation is the part of the menstrual cycle when a woman bleeds from her vagina for a few days. For most women, it happens every 28days or so on, but it’s common for a period to be more or less frequent than this ranging from 21 to 40 days of the menstrual cycle. Your period can last 3 – 8 days but usually tends to be heaviest in the first 2days. Approximately blood loss is about 30 to 70 MLS. (5-12 teaspoon) of blood during your period. Common mistakes women make during menstruation;

2. Not changing the pads

Blood flow is a natural part of the menstruation and in order to maintain proper hygiene, women need to use either a sanitary pad or tampons. You have to change a sanitary pad or tampons at an interval of 5-6 hours and tampons a bit earlier like 3-4 hours. This is because the sanitary pad has a lasting duration than the tampons. Several women treat every day of the period in the same manner as the other. Some women do not like to change their pad in a timely manner and wait till overflowing and staining of clothes. Each day of the period is different. The blood flow during the first few days is much heavier and continues to go down. If you don’t change your pad regularly, you can suffer from yeast infection.

The normal color of blood flow during the menstruation is brown at the onset, bright red in the mid and dark brown towards the end. Women tend to ignore this color. If you spot any other color other than this, it means that you are having a problem and need to consult a doctor immediately

The menstrual cycle starts between 25-35 days approximately 5-7 days in some women depending on their age, lifestyle, hereditary and hormonal condition. Some women ignore their date. It’s a natural occurrence and we should treat it with due respect. In most cases, the monthly cycle is regular but if you are having an irregular period every month, you should consult your doctor. Keeping track of your cycle and the heaviness of blood flow will enable you to seek medical help urgently.
